Travel trailer registrations improved 16 percent in December and 8 percent in 2011, according to Baird, citing Statistical Surveys. Fifth wheel sales grew 13 percent and 3 percent in 2011.

For the first two months of Thor Industry’s January quarter, the company’s towable retail sales are relatively flat, according to Baird. Thor has reported preliminary sales up 13 percent for the January quarter.

Dealers continue to stock towable product ahead of the selling season, increasing channel inventory, according to Baird.

January sales in the high volume 11- to 40-foot outboard fiberglass segment were up 14.4 percent, to 1,064 boats, from the same month in 2011, according to the marine publication citing Statistical Surveys.

Sales of aluminum fishing boats rose 17.3 percent in January, to 861 boats, and sales of aluminum pontoons rose 20.6 percent, to 263 boats, Soundings Trade Only reported.
